Volunteer Awards Night 2019

As part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations we hosted a very special evening to thank our amazing volunteers for their contribution to the work of Meadow Well Connected. Over the years we have been blessed with many different volunteers who have made a significant contribution to the success of Meadow Well Connected and have been the foundation of our work. The Awards Night was an opportunity to come together to acknowledge our volunteers and celebrate their support and commitment.

Guests were welcomed with a performance by the choir of the Church of Christ who sang beautifully and everyone was very moved by the singing.

Our Volunteer Coordinator, Leah, hosted the awards, each volunteer received a 'Valued Volunteer' medal and then we moved on to the hotly contested special categories of:

  • Best Newcomer 2019 - the decision was so close we awarded this to two volunteers - Stephen Forster and Dan Courtney
  • Personality of the Year 2019 - went to the ever smiling Bob Wallace
  • Outstanding Achievement 2019 - went to Richard Creighton for his reliability, progress and support
  • Volunteers Choice 2019 - went to Dan Watson, always ready to help with enthusiasm
  • Lifetime Achievement 2019 - went to Millie Stothart, our longest serving garden volunteer who has take responsibility for maintaining the entrance to the centre to welcome visitors
  • Volunteer of the Year 2019 - chosen by our Board of Trustees, this went to Ian Cummings for the commitment and dedication he has shown to completing the work in the poly-tunnels
  • Best All-rounder 2019 - awarded to George Whiteman, from reception to Connected Kids Club, cafe to events, George will turn his hand to most jobs and come in at the drop of a hat when we need extra help
  • Special Mention was given to Val Norman who is a part-time member of staff but dedicates more time as a volunteer, has taken on training to run Walking Netball and will help out at weekends and other events, always with a smile.

The awards were followed by a 3 course meal in the cafe, ably prepared by Kev Smith assisted by Sarah McDonald and served by staff to our volunteers. Everyone had a fantastic time and we were so pleased and proud of everything our volunteers have achieved and given over the last year, Meadow Well Connected wouldn't be the same without them!
