Homestyle Foods was launched in September 2014, following a community project to determine and create solutions to the issues they were facing.
The project, funded by North Tyneside Council, was called Asset Based Community Development or ABCD. One of the areas that the community cared most about was poverty and particularly food and fuel poverty.
The volunteers worked tirelessly over a six-month period to fully understand how to tackle the issue of food poverty and ultimately, with assistance from Meadow Well Connected and North Tyneside Council, they developed the first resident-led food co-op in the North East.
Gaining 82 members in its first six months, HomeStyle Foods has gone from strength-to-strength and today opens on a Tuesday and Thursday serving the food that our community says it needs. With constant feedback, we are always developing our product range.
